There are tremendous opportunities in futures options. At the moment I am not trading them but I keep thinking putting on call backspreads in the grains and silver.
In commodity futures (as opposed to financial)the individual contract months are not always in lockstep with the carrying charge pricing structure and of course sometimes there is backwardation.
This creates opportunities for all kinds of spread games. i have done butterflies in futures but have not done it with futures options yet. One barrier to overcome is the large bid/ask spread.
Having ETN's is great. UNG for example, it is very scalable because of the small contract size. I imagine putting on a sprad in crude at the wrong time could be ruinous.

I would like to learn what techniques to use on the mini S&P futures.
Can you use income option spreads on them. Do they react the same way as the option spreads on spx or spy. Where is a good source for learning techniques to use on the mini S&P futures.

Hi Danno,

I never traded options on futures, but as far as I know they behave a little differently and they seem pretty illiquid. If you want a starter on trading eminis contracts (not options), read John Carter's book Master the Trade. Once you get an idea, you may need to look into building trading systems.
